Remain Imperfect in Meditation
For some, meditation seems like it would be a chore. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard someone say ‘I just don’t have the time to learn to meditate.’ or ‘I’m not good at meditation.’ The thing is, no one arrives on their meditation pillow ‘good’ at the practice of meditation. And that’s not really the point. You don’t ever really need to become good at meditation, it’s simply a matter of showing up and practising.
I think part of the reason so many people feel like they may not be good at meditation is that we live in a world in which we are told we need to perfect everything we do. We must become experts. We must grind until we can’t grind anymore. In a word: capitalism. In a few more words: capitalism doing what it does best.
Meditation isn’t something to be commodified when it comes to your personal relationship with it. You do not have to make it into something that makes you feel more tired and stressed than you already do. It should be a resource that can help put you in contact with your complete and utter divinity - the consciousness that we are all a part of.
That you have the opportunity to do that from your tiny corner of this big old planet is nothing short of awe-inspiring. But I realise that when you wake up late on a Tuesday morning and the phone beckons, your stomach grumbles and the material world edges its way into your mind, you may not always feel like it. That’s why we call it practice. That’s why you can still show up imperfectly. The invitation is to continue to try and that’s half the battle.
